 on Bridgeport Harbor, it is only a little more than an hour away from New York.

In 1930, roughly 100 years ago, the city population was 147,000,

This museum was built in honor of Circus giant P.T Barnum,

The Barnum Circus resided here for forty years, during that time Barnum also served as the mayor of the town.

 The building where the museum is housed is an artfully designed terra cotta building, constructed in the 19th century, it is considered a unique example of this architectural style.

The Barnum Museum showcases captivating artifacts throughout the three-story structure, including a miniature circus, an elephant, and other circus related memorabilia.

 

3 Beardsley Zoo

 

While not in the same league as the Bronx or San Diego zoo, the zoo is considered to be the best in Connecticut.

The zoo features five sections:

Each section is home to related wildlife such as, leopards, bald eagles, tigers, prairie dogs, black swans, and many more.

The Beardsley Zoo offers scooters to those who cannot walk for a long time, so all members of your party can enjoy the sights.

 

4. Downtown Cabaret Theater

 

This classic entertainment venue

hosts live theater,  musical concerts,  and children’s theatre.

The theater was designed in a table & chair style so patrons can socialize, eat and drink while they enjoy the show. 

5 Captain’s Cove Seaport

For decades, the Seaport has been a place to have fun during Bridgeport's summer season. 

Captain’s Cove Seaport is a family-owned and operated company that combines the boardwalk, restaurant, marina, and bar.

They offer a lively and comfortable environment to have fun with your family and friends.

Their Marina is packed with boats for those who want to get off the dry land,

The boardwalk is filled with many local merchants, a sailing school, a maritime museum, and there is no entrance fee to the facility.

A Bonus place to visit in Bridgeport is the Gustav Whitehead Fountain

This monument commemorates a early pilot who allegedly flew a plane before the Wright brothers. 

The story is in 1901, Whitehead flew the a plane for a half-mile over a field in Fairfield, Connecticut, two years before the Wrights’ famous flight at Kitty Hawk. There is no photos of this event. 

The main sources of evidence consist of claims from several eyewitnesses, as well as a lengthy article in the Bridgeport Herald newspaper.
